Despite government funding for cat sterilization—which supports animal rescue shelters, nonprofits, and local feeders—resources fall short in managing Cyprus’s ever-growing population of feral cats. The Cypriot community has a deep affection for its cats and is doing all it can to control their numbers. However, the best way to care for our cats, and for Cyprus’s wildlife, may be to “love them less” by focusing on sustainable population control. As an invasive species, these cats pose a serious threat to local ecosystems and biodiversity.
